Description: Participants will explore the U-See-Um exhibit and interact with diverse media to answer questions about the evolution of SJSU iSchool’s VCARA as an immersive learning space with content related to virtual worlds, education, information science and archives. Then participants will navigate through the 10-story Archivium, interacting with past VCARA conference presentations including slideshows, video, text, and audio to receive a prize at the top.
Participants will locate exhibit content to identify key aspects of immersive education history.
Participants will encounter and analyze interactive content while navigating an immersive landscape.

Description: This roundtable discussion/presentation focuses on how to revision both teaching and learning in virtual world. With the emergence of VR, AR, and MR technology, it is important to rethink the use of virtual world for teaching and learning in a way that connect skills learned in virtual world to other technology. Is there a common ground for all realities? We will focus on project-based learning in virtual world that fosters creativity, problem-solving skills, collaboration, and deep reflection.

Description: In this immersive experience, we’ll start by providing a short orientation and then allowing visitors to go through a variation of one of the healing/blessing rituals set up to be self-paced. Our students learn how to prepare such rituals in the virtual world so that they will then have the skills to perform them for their interfaith / pagan communities in the real world. Notecards with important landmarks on the school’s sim will be provided, should visitors wish to explore further.
To demonstrate how we integrate a variety of technologies to provide a multi-layered educational experience.

Access: See the conference website for information about creating a Second Life account. Either SL or Firestorm viewers are recommended. Skype will be used for an orientation to demonstrate the Moodle and Office 365 tools used by the school.
